The Yungang Grottoes are located in Datong City, Shanxi Province, and are one of the four major grottoes in China, dating back to the Northern Wei period (around 460 AD). They are famous for their magnificent Buddhist sculptures, showcasing the transition of Buddhist art from Indian to Chinese styles. The grotto complex stretches about 1 kilometer along Wuzhou Mountain, comprising 45 main caves and over 200 smaller ones, housing more than 50,000 Buddha statues. The Yungang Grottoes not only symbolize religious faith but also serve as a testament to the cultural exchange between the East and West.
